Eryri, Snowdonia, was designated a National Park in 1951. It is the second largest in England and Wales, covering 2,171 square kilometers of North West Wales. The area covers the Carneddau and Glyderau mountain ranges as well as Snowdon (3560ft), Yr Wyddfa (meaning 'The Tomb' in Welsh). The Welsh name Eryri means 'place of the eagles.
Many sporting events take place in the area such as the legendary Three Peaks Challenge and the grueling Snowdonia Marathon.
